NewsGuard: Reliable Ratings for News and Information Sources
NewsGuard is a free Chrome add-on developed by NewsGuard Technologies, Inc. that provides users with reliability ratings for news and information websites. With the increasing prevalence of misinformation and disinformation, NewsGuard aims to help users make informed decisions about which news sources to trust.
Using a team of experienced journalists, NewsGuard conducts ratings based on nine basic and apolitical journalistic criteria. Each website is given a trust score of 0-100, an overall rating level ranging from "High Credibility" to "Proceed with Caution," and a detailed Nutrition Label report. These ratings and labels are then displayed next to links on search engines and social media platforms, covering 95% of online engagement.
The Nutrition Label report provides information on the site's ownership and financing, content, credibility practices, transparency practices, and history. This allows users to have a comprehensive understanding of a website's reliability before engaging with its content.
